Pets Want To Travel Too!

Of course, your pet doesn't want to stay at home when you're going on a trip. Although, according to www.newsday.com/travel flying with your pet may be getting more expensive. Spirit Airlines raised its fee for carrying pets to $100 each way. The previous amount was $85.00 each way. American Airlines has a $150 fare and Delta Airlines charges between $150 and $275. Jet Blue now charges $100 each way for pets. However, Jet Blue does give passengers flying with pets reward points towards free flights. Round trip tickets for your pet are almost as much as some low fare tickets that you might pay for yourself. Some airlines such as Spirit and Jet Blue say that charging steeper fees for pets helps to keep passsenger fees lower. After all, pets require extra handling and labor intensive care to ensure safety. Some airlines discourage pets on their flights. Southwest only allows pets to fly when they accompany disabled travelers. Owners who plan to take their pet along with them when they travel should research the airlines policy first. Some types of animals are prohibited on aircraft. There are additional limits on pet age and weight. Pets must also occasionally meet health and medical criteria to fly. Airlines require proof of veterinary visits in advance of the travel date. You'll also need an approved for airline use travel pet carrier. Jet Blue has a great program called JetPaws to educate fliers about pet etiquette. Go to www.jetblue.com/jetpaws for information when planning to take your pet away with you. This information site will give you the whats, whens, and hows of pet travel! Your pet should have a great time and enjoy traveling as much as you do!
